Servo Design Engineer
To carry out a range of engineering activities as assigned in an engineering/project team in accordance with all relevant process, quality and other requirements
Develop design specifications and performance aspects of missile systems actuator servos under guidance, in line with requirements and all quality and technical standards
Implement servo studies, both theoretical and practical to ensure that the actuator being designed will have a performance, which is within specified limits for all known conditions of usage
Construct and validate mathematical models of the actuator by practical testing before using for software specification, sensitivity, optimisation and qualification studies
Carry out engineering support activities in the field for specific products and customers to ensure the operability of products
Supply a detailed technical interface with suppliers/customers at a detailed level, ensuring the effective provision of support to customers in assigned areas in line with customer requirements and programme plans, as well as the rapid resolution or escalation of problems and issues
Support the development of solutions to technical issues and process improvement opportunities as a member of a project team
Plan, deliver and monitor assigned tasks, ensuring requirements are delivered to plan
Keep up to date in relevant technical areas and develop skills and capabilities in order to provide more effective services, share good practice and knowledge locally and also to continue to improve own practices
Contribute to engineering team decisions to support the effective performance of the team
Performance Indictators
Demonstration of a working knowledge of classical control/servo theory and sampled data systems.
Working knowledge of transfer functions, compensation techniques and stability criteria in both the continuous and digital domains.
Successful specification of servo components including position and rate sensors, electric motors, hydraulic and pneumatic valves.
Execution of complex error and tolerance analyses.
Relationship with suppliers related to the specification of bespoke components
Definition and implementation of certain aspects of Design Verification
Co-ordination of manufacture of prototype and development hardware
Successful planning and execution of Functional & Environmental Trials
The successful candidate will have the following skills and knowledge:
Degree qualified in relevant discipline (preferably Engineering Council approved) & MSc
Experienced in more than one aspect of a single engineering area/domain
Good understanding of and able to apply good engineering best practice
Good written and verbal communication skills, plus presentation skills
Able to plan, control and drive through assignments scales
Good analytical and problem solving skills
French language would be an advantage
MathCad/Simulink Experience
Problem Solving Challenges
Interpretation of functional & environmental requirements and translation into Mechanical systems concepts.
Generation and critical assessment of Concept Designs
Consideration of structural & dynamic loadings within a harsh environment
Partition of top-level requirements within the construction of Sub-System Specifications
Assist with resolution of major Production problems & defects
Identification of improvements to existing methodologies and processes
Successful candidates will be required to be security cleared prior to appointment.
