Senior Application Technologist – Cognos 8
Skill set: Cognos 8, R6Sigma, Framework Manager, Report Studio, Query Studio, Analysis Studio. SQL.
The role is to analyse, enhance, develop, install, test and modify enterprise-wide Cognos business applications. The role will be responsible for providing technical application support for existing systems. Additionally, dependent on project assignments will assist in the development of new system solutions.
Education and Ideal Experience
1.Educated to degree level or equivalent, plus practical experience (extensive experience for senior role)
2.Proven experience of implementing BI solutions from a data warehouse and have extensive knowledge of Cognos 8. This should include Framework manager, Report studio, Query Studio and Analysis Studio.
3.Previous system administration experience with Cognos (implementations, upgrades, security, maintenance etc)
4.Experience in the use of SQL.
5.General knowledge of wide range of IT technologies and activities, with specific knowledge of one or more technology fields.
6.Use of formal systems delivery methodologies.
7.Experience in computing languages relevant to post as defined in the roles matrix.
8.Experience of delivering and supporting business critical application packages within a large organisation.
9.Experience of packaged software implementation & upgrades.
Desirable
Application of formal configuration management procedures.
R6Sigma qualified (or equivalent).
Knowledge and operational experience in a manufacturing, technology or defence industry.
Skills
1.In depth knowledge of required language(s) / applications / databases / technologies;
2.Understanding of IT / Systems Engineering disciplines, including: requirements management; configuration management; change control; reliability analysis; and quality management
3.Understanding of basic action planning, tracking, and reporting;
4.Appreciation of all aspects of IT
5.Good written and oral communication skills
6.Effectively uses the specialist technical knowledge and resources of team mates to achieve working solutions
Responsibilities include:
Provide out of hours support, as agreed with the functional area (eg. Finance month end; system upgrades; or in support of programme milestones)
Ensure integrity, availability & security of information and systems.
Contribute to development of the company\'s applications strategy.
